We have been learning about Nelson Mandela and things that have happened in South Africa since he was released from prison.
Nelson Mandela was sent to prison on Robben Island in 1962 for protesting against the goverment in order to give rights to everyone in South Africa of all races not just whites. He tried to stop apartheid (not being able to do the same things as white people) and got sentenced to a lifetime sentence to jail. Nelson Mandela got released after spending 24 years in prison. He got released after the South African president realised it was wrong that blacks weren’t allowed the same things as white people were. After he was released the first thing he said to a friend was “how are you and your family,” instead of worrying about his own family.
