Winchester Records office

photo (5)Today we visited Winchester Records Office. We had a tour of behind the scenes, leant how documents and book are stored and restored. We then had a chance to look at different sources from the past to help us to understand more about the history of our school and the surrounding areas. we used maps, plans, photographs, census materials and books in our quest for facts about the past. We discovered that there was once a canal that ran alongside where our school is and this was dredged to be replaced with a trainline, we still have the waiting room on our playground.

Our school was originally in the top of the town hall, but when it got too big, just over 100 years ago it was rebuilt where it currently is. Amazingly our classroom was built to have 50 children in, we find 18 a squash sometimes!
