D – Day

6th June 1944

As we sailed across the endless stretch of water between Britain and France, the moon was illuminating the black night. I was positioned at the bow of the ship, keeping a watchful eye ahead of us. Suddenly darkness loomed ahead. It was our gateway to victory!

Finally, all of the Mulberry Harbours were in position. We anchored the ship and jumped into the freezing cold water. My best friend and I waded through the water and then started to climb one of the sheer rock faces that separated us from victory.
