Congratulations to Kiki

Each week we join the 100 word challenge and post writing on our writers blog.  Each week the best posts from all of those entered by children across the world are chosen as a special showcase and last week Kiki’s super writing was chosen as part of the showcase.  You can read her writing here.

Her writing was chosen for its sense of drama and her great word choices, take a look for yourself and see if you agree.

Today we had our indoor athletics competition at Test Valley.  There were a number of field events followed by relay races.  This time our combined scores meant that we came 4th.  Excellent support for our team mates, very well done.

Macmillan coffee morning

This morning the School Council ran a coffee morning to raise money for people with cancer.  We had lots of delicious cakes donated and everyone from preschool through to year 6 had an opportunity to buy one.  We also welcomed family members and members of our local community to enjoy a drink and slice of cake.  Overall we raised almost £300.

This afternoon was our annual cross country competition against our 6 local schools.  We had 21 representatives from years 3, 4, 5 and 6 and had teams in races and fun runs.  Each race was a challenge but we showed true resilience and great team work and came an amazing 3rd.  Special congratulations to Kiki as our year 6 medal winner and well done to everyone who participated for the first time.

The Brecon Beacons

Last week year 6 had an amazing week in Wales.  During the week we do used on living out our school values, especially those of responsibility and collaboration.  We had to cook, keep our house clean and tidy, make lunches, wash lots of dishes as well as experiencing being out in the beautiful Welsh landscape.  We learnt about the legend of Maen Llia (the standing stone) explored the derelict landscape that was once a gunpowder factory, walked up a mountain in the pouring rain, worked together to canoe down the canal in the warm sunshine and challenged ourselves by crawling through the cave systems deep underground.  We all took turns to lead different activities during the week and really grew in independence and thoughtfulness.
